OUR PASTOR

 

Reverend Dr. Larry E. Thompson, B. A., M. Ed., D. Min. 

 

Dr. Larry E. Thompson is the son of the late Cecil B. and Lucille Lewis Thompson and  of Wichita Falls, Texas. He was educated in the Wichita Falls school system and was graduated from the Booker T. Washington High School. 

  After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and compiled a 13 year Navy career. A few years after leaving the Navy, he enrolled at Bishop College, Dallas, Texas and pursued an education in religion and philosophy. He graduated from Bishop College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. 

  Pastor Thompson taught elementary school in Texas, Utah and Virginia for several years before studying for and receiving a Master of Education degree from Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. 

  Dr. Thompson was conferred an earned Doctor of Ministry degree from the Virginia University of Lynchburg, Lynchburg, Virginia in 2013. His dissertation was “Revitalizing a Dying Church: Preparing a Rural African-American Congregation to Serve in a Diverse Community.” 

  Dr. Thompson entered the Christian ministry in September 1972, licensed by the Bayview Baptist Church, San Diego, California. He was ordained in January 1988 by the New Birth Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas. He accepted the call of Beulah Baptist Church in June 2005 and was installed as pastor in September 2005.

 Dr. Thompson is a chaplain with the Chesterfield County Police Department. He is the President of the Ministers and Diconate.

  Dr. Thompson is married to the former Judith Bland Akrie of Pittsboro, North Carolina and they have four daughters, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. 

  Pastor Thompson is a life-long learner dedicated to preparing disciples to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
